All stages at a glance

Each tile represents one stage’s mean air temperature or WBGT (pick a metric below), averaged across its route and duration. Read the chart from 1950 on the left to 2026 on the right; in temperature view, outlined tiles mark stage averages above 30°C. Both metrics show a large range from weather fluctuations and route characteristics, but the increasing number of red tiles in recent years is undeniable.

Average air temperature experienced by riders during each Tour de France stage, calculated by sampling conditions at the location and time of the passing peloton. Temperature data from hourly ERA5-land, interpolated linearly in space and time and corrected for elevation offset.
